Fiona update

Hi Everyone- This is Fiona's husband Nic. Fi asked me to post an update to her blog to let you all know what's going on with her and her adventure to South Africa!
Fiona's trip started, as many trips do, with long delays at the airport. After getting to Bluegrass field at 6:00am Fiona's flight to Atlanta was delayed for over an hour. That was OK though because she had a long layover in Atlanta before her 15 hour flight to Johannesburg. Did I say long... I mean long. Thanks to some additional delays at Atlanta, Fiona's flight didn't take off until almost 8pm!

Once she got there though things picked up and she was off to the Primate Rescue Shelter where she's spending most of her trip. Unfortunately, there is no internet access at the shelter. So the extent of my contact with her for the first few days was a quick one line email she sent from one of the other volunteer's phones telling me she'd made it.

That changed yesterday when I got a full update from her when she had her first chance to pop into an internet cafe in the nearby town. However, the cafe wasn't exactly a hot bed of technology and she found out that they had no wireless access. If you wanted to get online you had to do it through one of their dedicated terminals and you can't upload pictures or documents. So it will be a while before Fiona can start sending her photos and the blog posts she's been writing. Don't worry, they're coming, it will just be a while longer.

Of course Fiona hasn't spent her first week just hanging around looking for internet access. She's been busy working with and learning about the primates! She's got lots of stories to tell and I'm going to let her speak for herself when she gets the chance. Just know that Fiona is doing great (apparently she's taken to eating mostly fruit so she must be picking up some habits from her new furry friends) and she's having a wonderful time.
Check back for more updates soon!
